Hi, I’m Francisca. I am a garment and textile designer with a deep love for performance and moving image. I was just recently accepted into the Royal College of Art in London to pursue my postgraduate studies and to extend my fashion and art practice!
For me, fashion has always been a doorway into storytelling and sublimation of emotions. While adorning the body still thrills me, my relationship to fashion has changed much. After working with both industry and academia to reimagine fashion structures, I found myself wanting to work beyond the linear format of a runway show and move my craft towards serviceability, sustainability and social impact.
The RCA’s fashion programme due to its artistic, disruptive and entrepreneurial spirit, is exactly the space I was looking for as an emergent designer that aims to marry their work’s performative nature with systems thinking.
To be inserted in London’s artistic scene is just as thrilling. Born and raised in Portugal, I can only imagine the creative opportunities within such a vibrant city.
However, studying in London is no small feat financially, so I am selling my textile art to help me fund this next chapter. If you'd like to have a piece for your home, I’d love to hear from you. I can promise that each work is full of years of hoping, dreaming, and a whole lot of believing.

Why the Royal College of Art
Being accepted into the Royal College of Art represents an opportunity to develop my practice within one of the world's leading postgraduate institutions for art and design. What excites me most about the RCA is not only its reputation, but its belief that design should actively shape a better future.
The Fashion programme encourages designers to move beyond the creation of garments and instead question the systems that surround fashion—its materials, economies, communities and cultural narratives. It values experimentation, research and critical inquiry as much as craftsmanship, making it an ideal environment for a practice like mine that exists between textiles, performance and moving image.
A defining aspect of the School of Design is the Grand Challenge, the largest interdisciplinary postgraduate design project of its kind. Every year, students from across the School of Design—including Fashion, Textiles, Service Design, Design Products, Intelligent Mobility and Innovation Design Engineering—work together in multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex global issues. Rather than approaching problems through a single discipline, the Grand Challenge encourages designers to combine different perspectives, methodologies and forms of expertise to create meaningful, human-centred solutions. It reflects my own belief that the future of fashion lies in collaboration and systems thinking rather than isolated object-making.
Equally inspiring is InnovationRCA, the College's internationally recognised centre for entrepreneurship and commercialisation. More than a business incubator, InnovationRCA supports students and graduates in transforming ambitious ideas into impactful ventures through mentoring, intellectual property support, investment opportunities and start-up incubation. It demonstrates that creativity does not end with graduation—it can evolve into sustainable projects, social enterprises and businesses capable of creating real-world change.
Studying at the Royal College of Art is therefore much more than an academic achievement. It is an opportunity to develop my practice within a community that believes creativity can influence systems, improve lives and shape the future. Every textile work I create brings me one step closer to becoming part of that community.
