Textile work
For these textile works the starting material is often a discarded knit sample, something initially set aside as a failure or a dead end. They begin as collages made of paper, fabric, and knit scraps cut and layered. The collage is then translated back into textile. Rather than working on a loom, I embroider a grid of lines directly onto the knit ground — a structure that functions as an improvised loom — and weave over it, leaving parts of the knit exposed. The result sits between painting and weaving.
