DANAUS / A PARACOSM

A PARACOSM, explores themes of friendship, coming of age, and self-discovery against the backdrop of a culturally rich yet sometimes restrictive environment. This nuanced setting reflects the tension between tradition and personal growth, highlighting the struggle for self-expression.

The characters experience a sense of disconnection from their surroundings, grappling with the challenge of reconciling their cultural heritage with their inner worlds. The work aim was to capture these universal emotions, illustrating that even in environments that feel limiting, one can still carve out a unique identity. This idea is conveyed through the artists painted garments made from childhood paintings sewn together and repainted and textile sculptures that contradict her grandmother's traditional Portuguese home.
