Piece developed in collaboration with Mafalda Beatriz. It is rooted in the Portuguese cultural heritage and valuing local resources. Finding common inspirations in the artists' grandmothers and their stories, the research was applied in a literal way, in an attempt to bring those houses to life.
This project was primarily focused on materiality, instead of shape. Unconventional materials for fashion were used, old and broken china, and wooden chairs. All the materials were second-hand, straight from the grandmothers' homes or flea markets, and after gathering all of them, the process was to find a piece that would match the material or contradict it. The goal was to find a balance between rigidity and softness, honoring the grandmothers' personalities and stories.
The corset was made in collaboration with Abrantes Atelier, to honor Coimbra traditional painting.
